At Workstories, we approach sustainability as an ongoing responsibility rather than a marketing exercise. In the past, we haven’t always shouted about the sustainable changes that we have made. We know that progress comes from honest assessment, clear priorities and steady improvement, and we remain committed to understanding where we are succeeding and where we still need to do better.

Local Manufacturing

We are proud that 85% of our products are now sourced and made in the UK, using locally sourced materials to reduce transport emissions and support British industry. When we do source from further afield, it is done with intent: to access the highest quality materials, always ethically sourced and chosen with sustainability in mind. In 2025 we invested heavily in our manufacturing and in-house design facilities, with acquisitions of Roger Lewis and Woodstories, growing our UK specialist sites to five, strengthening quality, craftsmanship and responsible production.

Minimising Waste, Maximising
 Repair and Reuse

We prioritise reduced waste at source, with prevention, the most effective and responsible approach. After that, we focus on maintaining, reusing, repairing and remanufacturing, with recycling, and finally landfill, always treated as a last resort to be avoided. We have embedded material efficiency into design and manufacturing, ensuring products are built for longevity and reuse.

Our Principles

We recognise that our activities, along with those of our suppliers, carry environmental, social, and economic impacts. Understanding these enables us to reduce harm, amplify positive outcomes, and create meaningful value. We design with purpose, guided by four key sustainability principles: a lean-by-design approach that champions functionality and character while avoiding unnecessary features and reducing material waste; a commitment to retaining material value by designing for circularity, enabling adaptability, repair, disassembly, and extended product life; the belief that information empowers us, allowing us to continually improve our products while supporting clients in meeting sustainability goals and certifications such as BREEAM, LEED, and WELL; and a broader view of impact that considers carbon emissions, transport, and the environmental effects of our offices, showrooms, warehouses, water use, and waste.

Certifications

Our certifications reflect our commitment to responsible sourcing, quality, and compliance. These include recognised standards such as FIRA, ISO, and VOC testing, providing reassurance that our products and processes meet established industry requirements.
